At
the Canadian Child Care Federation's "Caring
for a Living" conference last may in Calgary,
Alberta, keynote speaker Gordon College, an instructor
in the Family Studies Program at Lethbridge Community
College, also in Alberta, gave an absolutely wonderful
and humorous talk about managing stress.
His
words of wisdom:
- You
are what you are and where you are because of what
has gone into your mind. You can change what you
are and where you are by changing what goes into
your mind.
- Make
the most of the best and the least of the worst.
- Prepare
yourself everyday for something wonderful to happen.
When you do, it probably will.
- Yesterday's
the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a
gift. That's why is called the present.
- Those
who believe they already know all there is to know,
achieve nothing more in life than to become a burden
to those who are trying to learn more.
- It's
not what happens to me . . . it's what happens in
me! There are things in me! There are things in
life over which I have no control . . . only my
reaction to them.
- If
we sow a thought, we reap an act; if we sow and
act, we reap a habit; if we sow a habit, we reap
a character; if we sow a character, we reap a destiny.
And finally,
- Don't
enshrine ignorance just because there's so much
of it around.
