How
much do you know about dangerous and recalled children's
products? Many parents, caregivers, and professional
childcare workers are in the dark about the children's
product recall system and unaware of how to protect
children from dangerous products.
Kids
In Danger (KID )is a nonprofit organization dedicated
to protecting children by improving children's product
safety. KID was founded in 1998 by University of Chicago
professors Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar after their
16-month-old son, Danny Keysar, died in a recalled
portable crib in his licensed childcare home. Since
Danny's death, KID has promoted the development of
safer products and worked to eliminate unsafe products
from children's environments on the local and national
levels.
KID developed a workshop package to educate individuals
about the dangers of unsafe children's products, and
presented the workshop to diverse groups of Chicago
caregivers, parents and other community members in
2001-2002. The outreach program brought lifesaving
information to over 200 participants. Some even discovered
products in their own home and childcare facilities
that had been recalled. Angela, from Precious Little
One's Day Care, said afterward, "It was an eye opener
and made me more aware of hidden dangers."
Don't
Learn About Recalls From Your Child, KID'S packaged
workshop presentation, is now available to bring crucial
information about children's product safety to groups
nationwide. The workshop is designed for parents,
caregivers, state childcare licensors, trainers and
others concerned with the welfare of children.
The
interactive, one to two-hour presentation includes
an informative lecture, educational video, and hands-on
demonstration of how to check for recalled children's
products. KID is also able to answer questions and
provide suggestions for presenting the workshop to
community members.
The
message of Don't Learn About Recalls From Your Child
is vital to the safety and well-being of children.
To bring this lifesaving information to other parents,
caregivers, and childcare workers in your community,
