How
can I measure my campaign's success?
Many
people use click-through ratios to measure
ad success, which is the number of times your ad was
seen, divided by the number of times someone clicked
it. This ratio will vary greatly depending on a number
of factors, and while we will provide these statistics
in our online ad reports (coming soon), they can be
a misleading indicator of the success of your campaign.
A better measurement of advertising success is how
many people visited your site during the campaign,
and what did they do once they got there? Do
you want to spend your advertising budget to have
1,000 people see your ad, get a 20% click-through,
and receive 200 visitors to your Web site?
Or would you rather spend the same amount of money
to have 1,000,000 people see your ad, get a 1% click
through, and receive 10,000 visitors to your
Web site? Even though a 20% click-through may sound
better than a 1% click-through, the reality is that
you want a large number of excited, educated, and
purchasing visitors to respond to your ad, no
matter what your click-through ratio is.
What
do terms like "impressions," "hits," and "multiplier"
mean?
Some
of the terms used in Internet advertising are rather
confusing. Here are a few of the important ones:
Impressions
is the number of times a visitor sees a page (and
an advertisement) on the Web
site.
Banner advertising prices at child care online
are based on impressions.
Hits
simply refer to the number of times a server is
accessed. It's a completely technical term
and
is virtually meaningless to advertisers, since each
page, graphic, or page element could
count as a "hit." Advertising decisions should be
based on impressions.
The
Multiplier is a number assigned to each advertisement
(based on the number of
impressions
purchased) that controls how often the ad is displayed
in relation to other ads.
An
ad with a multiplier of 2 is displayed twice as often
as an ad with a multiplier of 1.
How
much traffic does child care online receive?
Many
sites quote their traffic numbers in terms of hits.
But, as was explained above, hits are not a very meaningful
measure for advertisers. A more meaningful measure
of traffic is impressions, and child care online
receives over of 190,000 page impressions per
month and from 27,000 to 31,500 Unique visitors..
